How to Split a PDF into Separate Pages (Free & Instant)

You need pages 3–7 from a 40-page report, or you want every page as its own file. Here's the fastest way without desktop software.

Two ways to split

1. Extract a range — pull out pages 3–7 as a new PDF

2. Split every page — turn a 40-page PDF into 40 single-page files

The [ToolsHive PDF Split tool](/pdf-tools/split) does both.

Step-by-step

1. Open [PDF Split](/pdf-tools/split)

2. Drop your PDF

3. Choose 'Extract range' or 'Split every page'

4. For range: enter start and end page numbers (e.g. 3–7)

5. Download

All processing happens in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

When splitting is right

  • Submit only the relevant pages of a long report
  • Email a chapter without sending the whole ebook
  • Extract signature pages for records
  • Break down a scanned batch where each page belongs to a different job

Common workflows

  • [Split](/pdf-tools/split) → [Compress](/pdf-tools/compress) each part → email
  • [Split](/pdf-tools/split) → [Convert PDF to Word](/pdf-tools/pdf-to-word) → edit
  • [Split](/pdf-tools/split) → [Merge](/pdf-tools/merge) back in a new order

Tips

  • Use PDF page numbers, not printed ones (a cover page is PDF page 1 even if labelled 'i').
  • Preview before downloading.
  • Batch split by 'Split every page' — faster than repeated single extractions.

Password-protected PDFs

Split fails on locked PDFs. Run [PDF Unlock](/pdf-tools/unlock) first (only files you own), then split.
